Headlights draw inspiration from VW’s ID EV lineup
Only the front and rear sections of the spied Volkswagen Taigun facelift were covered in camouflage, hinting that most updates will likely be concentrated in these areas. The headlights, partially hidden under wraps, appear to take design cues from the all-electric Volkswagen ID.4. Up front, VW may replace the current honeycomb grille with a cleaner, rectangular layout, while the fog lamp housings remain completely disguised.
From the side, the Volkswagen Taigun facelift appears largely unchanged, though redesigned alloy wheels and new tail-lights are expected. Significant sheet metal revisions are unlikely. The latest spy shots did not reveal the SUV’s cabin.
Volkswagen Taigun facelift: powertrain options
At launch, the updated Taigun is expected to remain mechanically unchanged. It should continue with the familiar 115hp, 1.0-litre turbo-petrol (1.0 TSI) and 150hp, 1.5-litre turbo-petrol (1.5 TSI) engines. Both engines come paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox, while automatic buyers can choose between a 6-speed torque converter with the 1.0 TSI or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic with the 1.5 TSI.
The 1.0 TSI engine is expected to gain a new 8-speed automatic transmission at a later stage. This new AQ300 unit would replace the current 6-speed torque converter, potentially easing engine load, improving fuel efficiency, and lowering COâ‚‚ emissions. While the existing gearbox is imported, Volkswagen is reportedly exploring local production of the AQ300 to achieve better cost efficiency. The same transmission could also make its way to the upcoming Skoda Kushaq facelift.
