Volkswagen Polo Makes a Comeback as an EV – Debut and Launch Timeline Revealed

Volkswagen has revealed a fresh naming approach for its upcoming vehicles. The automaker will retain the names of its well-known ICE (internal combustion engine) models for their electric ID. counterparts as well. This means both traditional combustion and electric versions will be sold side by side. According to Volkswagen, this move is aimed at giving customers clearer product orientation across the lineup.

Volkswagen ID. Polo Launch Set for 2026

The first model to adopt this new strategy will be the Volkswagen ID. Polo, previewed earlier as the ID. 2all concept. The all-electric Polo is slated to arrive in global markets in 2026, followed by the performance-oriented ID. Polo GTI. Both models will debut publicly at the IAA Mobility Show in Munich, scheduled between 8th and 14th September 2025.

Design & Dimensions of ID. Polo and ID. Polo GTI

The ID. Polo and ID. Polo GTI prototypes have been showcased in vibrant camouflage with sporty design cues. Highlights include bold alloy wheels, slightly flared wheel arches, redesigned bumpers, a front diffuser, and a split roof spoiler on the tailgate.

Built on Volkswagen’s dedicated MEB Entry platform, the ID. Polo measures 4,053mm long, 1,816mm wide, and 1,530mm tall, making it a compact yet practical electric hatchback with sporty proportions.

Powertrain Expectations

While Volkswagen has yet to disclose official powertrain details, reports suggest the ID. Polo and ID. Polo GTI will be powered by a single electric motor paired with a front-wheel-drive (FWD) system. The output is expected to be around 223bhp.

Additionally, Volkswagen is rumored to be working on a Clubsport variant of the ID. Polo, offering a more performance-focused driving experience.

Volkswagen ID. CROSS Concept – Electric T-Cross Preview

Ahead of the ID. Polo’s debut, Volkswagen will showcase another exciting concept on 7th September 2025 – the Volkswagen ID. CROSS Concept. This all-electric compact SUV will preview the upcoming electric T-Cross and is expected to reach production by late 2026.

According to Volkswagen, all upcoming ID. models will feature premium-quality interiors with soft-touch materials, an intelligent blend of digital and physical controls (including buttons and knobs on the steering wheel and cockpit), and an intuitive operating system for a user-friendly driving experience.
