Tata Motors Rises to No. 3 in August 2025 Sales Despite Overall Market Decline
Tata Motors recorded strong month-on-month (MoM) growth in August 2025, climbing to the third spot on the OEM sales charts.
Overall passenger vehicle sales in India were down in August, as buyers delayed purchases ahead of the new GST rates. Total sales stood at 3,27,719 units, marking a 7.5% decline year-on-year (YoY), while MoM sales fell 5.5%.

Despite the challenging market conditions, Tata Motors’ modest MoM growth helped it maintain a strong foothold, reflecting steady demand across its portfolio.
Tata Nexon, Punch Lead Company Sales in August 2025
In August 2025, the Tata Nexon not only topped Tata Motors’ sales chart but also emerged as India’s highest-selling compact SUV. Nexon registered 14,004 units, reflecting a 14% year-on-year (YoY) growth and a 9% month-on-month (MoM) increase from 12,845 units sold in July 2025.
The Tata Punch claimed the second spot but experienced a significant drop in sales. From 15,643 units in August 2024, sales fell 32% YoY to 10,704 units. MoM sales also saw a marginal decline of 1%, down from 10,785 units in July 2025. The slowdown could be linked to anticipation for the Punch facelift, expected later this year with substantial feature upgrades.
Tata Tiago and Altroz Show Mixed Trends in August 2025
The Tata Tiago saw relatively strong demand in August 2025, with 5,250 units sold, marking an 11% year-on-year (YoY) growth from 4,733 units in August 2024. However, month-on-month (MoM) sales dipped 6% compared to 5,575 units sold in July 2025.
Meanwhile, the Tata Altroz recorded growth on both fronts. Sales rose 31% YoY from 3,031 units in August 2024 and improved 1% MoM from 3,905 units in July 2025, reaching 3,959 units last month.
Tata Harrier Leads SUV Demand; Curvv, Safari, and Tigor See Mixed Trends
The Tata Harrier witnessed strong demand in August 2025, with 3,087 units sold, marking a 63% year-on-year (YoY) increase from 1,892 units in August 2024. Month-on-month (MoM) sales also rose 39% from 2,216 units in July 2025. The positive response was especially notable for the Harrier EV, particularly the Adventure variants, which continue to face extended waiting periods.
On the other hand, the Tata Curvv experienced a steep decline, with sales dropping 51% YoY to 1,703 units, down from 3,455 units in August 2024. MoM sales also fell 15%, compared to 2,005 units sold in July 2025.
The Tata Safari reported a YoY decline but MoM growth, with 1,489 units sold, down 24% from 1,951 units in August 2024, but up 20% MoM from 1,242 units in July 2025.
Finally, the Tata Tigor saw a sharp downturn, with sales dipping 30% YoY to 805 units, down from 1,148 units, and a 17% MoM decline from 968 units sold in July 2025.
