Mercedes-Benz Teases Upcoming Electric C-Class
During the recent reveal of the electric GLC, Mercedes-Benz gave the world its first glimpse of the upcoming electric C-Class. This new sedan, expected to debut in 2026, will be a direct competitor to the future BMW i3.
The teaser image, shown at the Munich motor show, reveals some key design details. The front of the C-Class EV features a sealed-off grille similar to the electric GLC, with an intricate pattern of illuminated dots and a light-up Mercedes-Benz logo at the center.
The headlights contain unique, three-pointed star-shaped daytime running lights (DRLs). The grille also stands out with four horizontal slats, a design element previously exclusive to the S-Class in Mercedes’ sedan lineup. Below the grille, air vents and parking sensors are visible, hinting at a blend of futuristic design and functional features.
Teaser Details: Rear Design and Performance
The teaser image also gives a glimpse of the electric C-Class’s rear design. The rear quarter glass now has a smoother, more rounded bottom corner, a departure from the sharper, more angular design of the current C-Class.
Regarding performance, Mercedes-Benz CEO Ola Källenius stated that the new electric C-Class will be built on the brand’s MB.EA platform, which is also shared with the GLC and E-Class. The company is aiming for an impressive range of 800 km on a single charge, thanks to the platform’s focus on outstanding efficiency.
Powertrain, Battery, and Charging
The new C-Class EV will not only share its MB.EA architecture with the GLC EV but is also expected to feature similar powertrain options. This likely means it will be offered with a single-motor, rear-wheel-drive setup producing 374 hp, as well as a more powerful dual-motor, all-wheel-drive variant with 489 hp.
The sedan is also anticipated to use the GLC’s 94 kWh, 800V battery pack, which supports fast-charging speeds of up to 330 kW. For context, the GLC’s NMC battery can charge from 10% to 80% in just 24 minutes, and in only 10 minutes, it can add 303 km of range (WLTP).
