Honda Plans Electric and Hybrid SUVs for India
Aiming to revive its presence in the Indian market, Honda is set to launch several new SUVs by 2030, featuring petrol, electric, and hybrid powertrains. The automaker will also introduce an all-new global PF2 platform, which will underpin its future small and medium-sized models. The PF2 architecture will make its debut with a premium three-row SUV, slated for 2027, and will also underpin the next-generation Honda City sedan and a new subcompact SUV.
Honda Hybrid SUV for India
Honda plans to enter the electric and hybrid SUV segment in 2026-2027. Its first hybrid SUV in India will be the Honda Elevate, expected to launch in the second half of 2026, possibly during the festive season. While official powertrain details are yet to be revealed, the Elevate Hybrid is expected to feature the Atkinson Cycle 1.5L 4-cylinder petrol engine used in the City e:HEV.
In the City, this engine is paired with two electric motors—one functioning as a generator and the other providing propulsion—mated to an e-CVT gearbox. The setup delivers a claimed fuel efficiency of 26.5 kmpl and a driving range of around 1,000 km.
Honda’s Alwar manufacturing facility in Rajasthan will serve as the production hub for the new hybrid SUV. Pricing is expected to carry a premium of around Rs 2–2.5 lakh over the petrol variant.
Honda Electric SUV for India
Honda’s first electric SUV is scheduled to launch between April 2026 and March 2027. Contrary to earlier reports, the EV will not be based on the Elevate. Instead, it will be developed under Honda’s ACE (Asian Compact Electric) project, with 50–70% of locally produced units earmarked for exports.
More details on Honda’s upcoming electric and hybrid SUVs are expected in the coming months.
