Citroen India Debuts “Cara,” a Homegrown AI-Powered Digital Assistant
Citroen India has launched “Cara,” a new AI-driven digital assistant developed entirely in India at the Stellantis Bengaluru technology hub. This on-board assistant, which debuted with the new Citroen Basalt X, is being hailed by the company as the country’s first fully conversational automobile assistant.
Cara is not only for the Indian market but also for all of Stellantis’ global brands. According to Shailesh Hazela, CEO and Managing Director of Stellantis India, the system is ready to be configured for use in vehicles worldwide. The Bengaluru tech hub, which focuses on developing AI and machine learning for global Stellantis products, was instrumental in creating this technology.
Key Features of Cara
Language Support: Cara understands 52 languages, including many Indian regional dialects, with more to be added in the future.
Customization: Users can rename the digital assistant to their preferred name, offering a more personalized experience.
Unique Capabilities: While most in-car assistants handle basic voice commands, Cara integrates with AI and web services to provide more comprehensive assistance. For example, it can check your flight status, assess traffic, and analyze your car’s fuel level to create a complete journey plan. The system demonstrated its ability to understand context and provide accurate information during its launch.
Emotional Intelligence: Hazela noted that Cara can even detect the user’s tone. If you speak to it in an angry voice, it can respond with a calming tone to help de-escalate the situation.
Currently, Cara is available on the new Basalt and will soon be rolled out across the entire Citroen India lineup.
