All About the Maruti’s New SUV : Price, Positioning, and Features Explained
The new Maruti mid-size SUV is finally set to debut on September 3, 2025, with bookings expected to open on the same day. This highly anticipated model will be Maruti’s second contender in the competitive mid-size SUV segment, directly challenging the Hyundai Creta. While its official name is still under wraps, the car is widely referred to as the ‘Maruti Escudo’.
Pricing & Market Positioning
The new SUV will be positioned as the flagship model for Maruti’s Arena dealerships, slotting between the Brezza and the Grand Vitara. This strategic placement means its pricing will likely overlap with both models.
Initial estimates suggest the base variant of the Maruti Escudo could start around Rs 10 lakh to Rs 10.50 lakh. The top-end trim, especially with the hybrid powertrain, is projected to be priced close to Rs 19 lakh.
Feature Highlights
While we’ll have to wait for the official reveal to get the full list of features, reports indicate the Escudo will be a game-changer for Maruti. It’s expected to be the brand’s first model to come with Level-2 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) and a premium Dolby Atmos audio system.
Other anticipated features include a powered tailgate, ventilated front seats, and a panoramic sunroof, bringing the Escudo up to speed with its rivals.
Engine Options
The new Maruti SUV is expected to borrow its powertrains from the Grand Vitara, offering a versatile range of options:
- 1.5L Naturally Aspirated Petrol: Produces 103bhp.
- 1.5L Petrol Hybrid: Generates 115bhp.
- CNG Variant: Delivers 88bhp.
The SUV is also rumored to be the first Maruti to feature an underbody CNG tank, which would be a significant advantage as it frees up valuable boot space. Transmission options will include both manual and automatic gearboxes, with FWD, AWD, and even 4WD configurations available on select variants.
