Tata Motors reports a 44% surge in EV sales and a decline in passenger vehicle sales for August 2025

August 2025 Sales Highlights

In August 2025, Tata Motors reported a slight increase in total sales, reaching 73,178 units, up from 71,693 units in the same month last year. However, domestic sales saw a decline, dropping to 68,482 units from 70,006 units in August 2024.

The company’s passenger vehicle (PV) segment experienced a 3% year-on-year (YoY) decline, with sales of 43,315 units. Domestic PV sales alone fell by 7% to 41,001 units. In contrast, exports showed significant growth, with 2,314 PVs shipped.

A major driver of growth was the electric vehicle (EV) segment, which saw a remarkable 44% surge in sales, totaling 8,540 units sold in domestic and global markets. The commercial vehicle (CV) segment also performed well, recording a 10% YoY growth with 29,863 units sold. CV exports were particularly strong, jumping 77% to 2,382 units.

Upcoming Models and Upgrades

Tata Motors is gearing up to introduce several new and updated models in the coming months. The company is set to launch the Tata Punch and Punch EV facelifts in October 2025, which will feature subtle design and feature enhancements.

The long-awaited Tata Sierra is scheduled to debut in November. It will initially be an all-electric model, followed by an internal combustion engine (ICE) version in early 2026. The electric Sierra is expected to share its powertrain with the Harrier EV, while the ICE model will be offered with a new 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol and a 2.0L diesel engine. A 1.5L turbo petrol engine will be added later.

Additionally, the Tata Nexon EV is expected to receive a major upgrade with the introduction of a Level-2 ADAS (advanced driver assistance system). This advanced suite will include features like adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, forward collision warning, and autonomous emergency braking. However, this upgrade will be exclusive to the top-tier Empowered+ 45 trim.
